table overhaul

AJ has been challenging me to start a business from redoing things that I find at garage sales, thrift stores or even on the side of the road. I definitely love being a stay at home mom but find that I get antsy and bored when I can't be using my creative side as much as I did when event planning full time. Last Monday Drew and I took a trip to Savers in Danvers and found this table. I wish I remembered to take a photo of it while it was in Savers with a layer of dust on it in all of it's parquet goodness but whoops.

Here are the beautiful before photos:

Here are the results after three coats of Kilz primer, three coats of Behr's Ultra Pure White (semi-gloss) and two coats of water based polyurethane. Each coat took about an hour and I let the whole table dry after the polyurethane all weekend without setting anything on it... let's just say it was a long process.... but I think it's worth it.

I'm going to sell the piece... even though I want to keep it now. :) Anyone in the market for a pedestal table that seats eight comfortably and 10 if you have skinny chairs? The dimensions are 45" across by 83" (with both leaves in) OR 58" across with no leaves. I'm asking $350.

  1. I have a 40 year old table in need of this type of transformation. I think I will tackle it this summer. Gosh 3 coats of everything almost and I actually I have to strip mine since it was painted 10 years ago and it is peeling now.

Thanks for listing the things you used and how much you used them.
