I got this question from Candy the other day and thought the answer could be helpful to anyone:
Mike's brother is getting married and asked if I could help with the favors. They are thinking Chinese takeout containers with a candy bar. But they want to decorate the containers but don't know how. I thought of you and was wondering if you have any ideas. Her color is purple.
The tricky part is that guests will be filling their own containers which means the tops of the boxes will need to be accessible and not styled. I think the best thing to do would be to style a few boxes and put them out as examples to guests, like here.
The most simple way to handle this would be to make an adorable stick on tag for the front of your box; and if you are feeling particularly ambitious secure a ribbon with glue dots that guests can just tie into a little knot at the top of the box.

If it looks a little complicated to make a sticker then no problem! There is an easier way that can even be done in Microsoft Word. Just make a little tag, get them printed them on cardstock (I find that when I send things out to be printed it always looks better than having them done on a home printer). You can just secure these to the top with a ribbon, try to make it look thicker than this one to make it look a little more posh.
To make a great statement you could find coordinating color boxes with some really fun ribbon like in this photo. I'll say it again at the risk of sounding like a broken record: glue dots (from Michaels) are amazing for securing the ribbon.

Okay, and just because I found these and love them I'll show them to you... even though they aren't practical for people to fill their own, but, Candy, in case she changes her mind and has them pre-filled with candy you could do something like this:
Did that give you any ideas, Candy?
