Master Bedroom Before and Progress

The other day I was perusing my Facebook albums for some photos of a rental we have and came across this photo... I didn't think we had any of the "Scary Bedroom" as we called it.

Just imagine people scoffing at us during our open house when they saw this room... Literally that happened.

Sort of Incredibly gross, right? AJ ripped up the floor and the ceiling and we took off the drywall. It wasn't exactly salvageable, you can see what I mean... plus, we had to put some insulation in the walls. Being able to see your breath in your bedroom isn't a good thing. Ever.

This photo, taken this morning after a little bit lot of cleaning to the bedroom, was taken from the exact same angle the photo above was taken from:

Notice our new closets doors that my handy hubby installed? We got a $200 gift card to Home Depot thanks to credit card points and used them to buy these two doors that nearly match the rest of the house. Why only "nearly" match? Because we didn't buy real wood. (Gasp!) We bought the cheaper version because we knew hoped that with paint they would look identical to the others. They look pretty darn good for $100 less per door. We bought pre-hung doors but AJ still had to do some clever cutting to make sure they fit into the closet space.

Obviously we still have a long way to go but we are making progress! Oh, and don't you like our baseboard? It's the newest thing to have it be at an angle. :)

Two big things we still need to do that'll make a huge difference:
New windows
New floors

Don't you think that'll make all the difference... but it sure does look better, doesn't it?

  1. I'm curious where you bought your fireplace. Is it a working gas one, or is it just a decorative feature?

  2. It was from Home Depot, after the fireplace season ended so it was 50% off. We painted it white. It is a working electric one and does a great job heating a room up. We got it in 2009 but I've seen similar models there lately.
