DIY Inspiration

The only thing that I feel like I've had time to look at lately has been magazines or catalogs... and lately they've been pouring in. I'm not complaining, they are my inspiration until I'm back on Pinterest. :)

Check out these fun ideas that could easily be replicated... hopefully in the next few months around Migonis Home...

Chesapeake Sandbox with Awning

These next few ideas would be so fun for Drew's room, but I don't want to go overboard on the theme stuff and clutter his room so I might just do the garland idea:

Ship Flag Garlands
Pottery Barn Kids

Look at that anchor wall art. PB Kids isn't even selling it... or if they are I can't find it but I love it.

Vintage Nautical Flags
Surprise, surprise... also from PB Kids. Don't you think the flags are great? I'm not sure how I'd do the letter but I think I could make the flag fairly easily.

Okay, now, let's talk some grown-up ideas. AJ thought it would be great to hang the photos in our stairway like this with the rope, wouldn't that be neat? Now here's the stupid thing... I can't find the full photo from the magazine anywhere on Pottery Barn's website. So you can't see the really great sailboat pieces (for lack of a more technical term) that they used to hang the ropes to the ceiling. Page 29 of their most recent catalog, though features it and so does the video I linked to. :)

Lastly, I've been brainstorming table ideas for Easter. AJ, Drew and I are hosting this year! I've always wanted to host a major holiday (why? maybe just because it feels "grown-up" and I have all these ideas for a cute spring-y dinner party). I have this idea to make a long box, window box style, for the center of the table from an old pallet with found at AJ's dad's farm (he's a dairy farm in upstate NY). Here are two inspiration photos for what I hope to make... but no more, I don't want to give away too much. :)

You'll see me on Monday posting about whatever we came up with for the table!

Questions (answer any and all):
1. What photos are inspiring you now?
2. What are your Easter plans?
3. If you were hosting Easter how would your table look and what would you be eating?

  1. We actually don't have big plans this year for Easter. I normally make a ham dinner, but I'm 37 weeks pregnant and just don't feel like it. We're getting together with our small group from church Easter night for a low country boil, and I'm excited for something different! VERY much looking forward to our church's Easter service! Can't wait to see what you end up with for your table decor.

  2. We're going to our future daughter-in-laws parents house for Easter. I'm very excited as we've always hosted Easter dinner. If I were hosting I'd have a planter in the middle of the table with viola's moss and maiden hair fern with colored eggs around and birds nests around the planter. I think your hint at what you'll do for your dinner table looks promising...be sure to show us. Inspiration for me, image wise, is coming from a couple of new sites I've found on tumblr...they have some amazing photographs.

  3. I also love the nautical flags...I put a few in my 3 year old son's room. I bought a garland from Land of Nod but they were small and just didn't look authentic. I ended up bidding on vintage yacht or nautical flags on eBay and LOVE them. They are worn and weathered but in a good way. I strung them with twine from their grommets and made my own garland! Living in Annapolis I had to go a little nautical but like you I didn't want to over do it.

  4. Oh...those boat pieces are called cleats...you can get them at Home Depot or any boaters store. A lot of my neighbors use them as gate handles or on their cabinets. They come in all sizes and different materials...plastic, metal etc.

  5. You could always paint the letter on the flags if you make them. Or make a freezer paper stencil. Some embroidery shops charge 2.50 a letter for something like that if you really want embroidery. Or find an etsy seller to work with! :) have a great Easter!

  7. Love the anchor wall art! I bet you could do something very similar with pallets and an anchor stencil in white?
