Kitchen Herb Garden

The other day I said to AJ that we should have a kitchen herb garden right outside the window above our sink and then I had a brainstorm... I should use the planter we made from the pallet for Easter (which, by the way, was featured yesterday over at this amazing blog Roadkill Rescue, check them out!)!

I went to Kane's Florist in Peabody today and picked up some herbs. I didn't replant them yet because I'm not sure how to do it because the planter isn't exactly made to be water-tight. :)

I had fun taking some pics of each herb. I got the ones we were most likely to use... and because I have this love affair with the smells of basil and cilantro.

Let me show you where a bit of that basil showed up after Drew ripped it off... I've got it with some lilac I forced in our kitchen window. I've got to finish painting that window frame...

Here are a few shots of the whole room showcasing the kitchen herb planter:
See my little helper whizzing his little rocket around? :)

Have a great night, and tomorrow I will be back with a project inspired by Meredith and her super long hospital stay, and more importantly, an update on her great progress.

Have I said lately how thrilled I am to have you following along? I get the nicest comments and emails from you... thank you. :)

  2. I love it! You could by a plastic window box container and put it inside the pallet box. It would keep the water and dirt in and would help keep the pallet box from rotting. I know most window boxes are 24" long by 8 " wide and high...just replaced one so I had the measurements in my head!

A herb garden is a wonderful idea!

  3. Oh...one more suggestion. While at the garden center the sales associate said if the plastic container didn't work I could line the window box with thick plastic or tarp. Luckily my window box could hold the plastic container.

  4. Great idea! I've been wanting to start an herb garden for a while. I dont even mind the herbs just growing in their little pots. They seem to fit in there pretty well!

  6. I've done something like this where I just placed pots inside a long planter basket that was not waterproof and I lined the basket with the bottom of a garbage bag I cut down short. It was easy, cheap, and worked.
