Ever since we moved in our driveway has been in desperate need of a makeover. There were cracks and sinking holes. And a big oil stain from that Volvo S60 we owned for exactly one year (this car was a lemon... the worst kind). We have both loved the gravel driveways with cobblestones at the end that we see around Manchester and also really liked that we would be the only ones in our neighborhood with one (ie: it's not overdone around town). So, for about $100 we have a driveway makeover.... but, part two of the makeover will come after we save up some cash for our cobblestones (it'll be about $400 for them if we want to do four rows over the 17 feet at the end of the driveway).
Before, with the icky pavement. And our trash and recycling. :)
After, taken on this very rainy morning... I was out in my rain boots getting this shot. And risky frizzy hair. :)
Let's zoom in so you can see the pea gravel up close:
Here are some of my fave shots, with it leading into our patio, also done with the pea gravel:
So far we love it... it feels so beachy and cottage-y and for hardly any money. I love how it just flows into the patio... instead of the patio stones just flowing onto our pavement.
To do list for the driveway:
Cobblestones at the end
Build a skinny planter to divide the driveway from the sidewalk.
Plant privacy bushes or beach grass in planter.
Question:
What did YOU do around home this weekend?
Any ideas for future posts?
I worked on my flower gardens! There were tulips growing in my hydrangea. The ones I could get out, I did and moved them to my other garden that has other perennials in it...a great way to spend my Saturday afternoon :)
ReplyDeleteWe used a lot of pea gravel in our old yard and plan to use it in the new yard for a few areas. After having kitchen cabinets installed, we talked our yard plans over with our contractor. He's done a nice job of using both flagstone and pea gravel. Affordable and nice looking solutions.

ReplyDeleteThat looks amazing!!! :) Megan
ReplyDeleteHow does that work with plowing and snow? Do you have to do repair work each spring? I love the look, but never knew how it worked in New England! :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks great. I wish I could say we made some home improvements around here but it's a rental and I'm just SO not motivated to fix up someone else's house. I still should since I have another year here, maybe I'll snap out of this funk and get to it.
ReplyDeleteI love the look of the pea gravel drive! And the continuance of the gravel through the gate into the back "patio" area. How cool that you are studying for your real estate license! I got mine here in Texas about 18 months ago and am loving the work. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteit looks beautiful! our first home was on the cape and we had a driveway very similar. i always liked the look of it, but just be careful when shoveling :). it tends to be very hard to shovel without shoveling up rocks with the snow and then flinging them all over your yard when dumping your shovel-load. i love the update though..and the cobblestone pavers will be just adorable! very nantucket-esque.
ReplyDeleteLooks Great! This weekend my husband and I were packing...we get to move into our first home next month! We are excited for all the projects we get to do around the house.
ReplyDeleteIdeas for posts? If you have not already...maybe something about moving into your first home...or just moving in general...? Like what you need right away, what things you can wait on...prioritizing projects? Just some thoughts!
Hi Jen, This is my first visit. Your home is so charming! I'm anxious to see more. I'll be following along!
ReplyDeleteI worked in the garden on Saturday, but Sunday it became cool and foggy. Spring has been playing hide and seek in Southern California. I love your pea gravel drive and walkway. We added a pea gravel sitting area in our backyard last year...love it.
ReplyDeleteIsn't a new topic for posts always the challenge! I recently read a very cute post on suggestions for coming up with blog ideas from Joy the Baker blog.

Your new driveway looks great! Just last week we moved our driveway... I never thought I would be so excited to spend money on gravel. :-)
ReplyDeleteoooh! i'm interested in Chantals question. How does it work when it snows? will you just have to shovel?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I came across your blog via Dreamy Whites. Would you please tell me what colour you used on the exterior of your home?
