I wasn't sure what to blog about today. In all my free time I've been studying for my real estate exam, not creating. I sort of hate the days I haven't created something... even if it's just making a batch of cookies. Actually, that sounds really good right now... I digress. I had a coupon for Joann Fabrics, needed a blog project and needed to work on this project below for oh.... ever since we created the nursery.
You guessed it... way too short curtains from Target.
What's a girl to do? Purchase almost identical fabric, but in a different color, at Joann's! It's one of their Duckcloth fabrics and it's $10.99 / yard. Here's the view of the room with shorty short curtains from the other side.
And after I moved the chair:
Here is my new fabric which I stretched out over the existing curtains (I did pretty much this entire project while he napped). I chose this color because it would tie in the tan in his rug.
Every time I sew I break out the manual. I'm THAT much of an expert. :)
I sort of hate threading the bobbin (well, bringing it up from the bottom), but I liked this shot.
After sewing the tan fabric to the white curtain I turned the sides inward and sewed up the side seams. Basically, if you can sew in a relatively straight line you can do this project.
I measured the size I would need the bottom to be and then folded in the sides (see the mini triangle) so there wouldn't be any overlap over the side of the curtain.
Here is the finished product! It reminds me of this amazing Kate Spade shower curtain I owned after college that I found for a song at Marshalls.
With the table we put all our diaper supplies on:
Then, with my child hamming it up Home Alone style:
Too cute he is. I love the contrast of the white and tan and especially like how they pool on the floor.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great save for the shorty short curtains!!! Nice job!
ReplyDeleteThose look great in his nursery! I like then way more than just the plain white!
ReplyDeleteLove this idea! I did a similar thing with a printed fabric shower curtain that I loved. I added solid canvas to the bottom, and voila-custom looking curtains for a fraction of the cost!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! It reminds me that i have too-short curtains in our guest room that I've been meaning to lengthen for forever, or at least since i hung them a year ago. Now I just need fabric...
ReplyDeleteWhere is your son's dresser from? I love the look of it and I'm always on the lookout.

I love Jo-Ann fabrics, but recently needed 8 yards of duck cloth for a slipcover. An FYI that I read on another blog had said she purchased her duck cloth at Wal-mart. It was $5.99 a yard. Even with my coupon, Wal-Mart was cheaper. Surprisingly enough, they had a great selection of colors. Love following your blog. I live on the water in Massachusetts and my husband and I have redone our bungalow. So many memories.
ReplyDeleteLooks so good! Love naptime projects!!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! I was thinking you would go with a navy or blue so the tan was a surprise and I LOVE it. It does blended with the rug and looks nautical. Beautiful room for a beautiful little boy.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the curtains...I have the same project that I've been putting off for months now.
ReplyDeleteSharon @ mrs. hines class
They look AWESOME!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful curtains, Jen!!! I love the puddling effect on the floor. Your pic of Drew is hysterical... haha!
