Ceiling Prep

You know how we've been living without most of our kitchen ceiling for close to a year now? Well, let me just tell you why I love AJ being off for the summer... or better yet, I'll show you. Here is where we have begun, with a ripped out ceiling. We needed to put some insulation in to make it quieter and keep the heat from escaping up the ceiling.

AJ had to hang these boards, called strapping, to attach the drywall.

While he did this I painted the drywall before we hung it on the ceiling... I avoided a crick in my neck by not painting while it was attached to the ceiling. :)
I painted nine super thin sheets of drywall with Behr's self priming white paint. Two coats worked well on most of them at an average of 10 minutes per board.

That is where we will leave off today with the ceiling... check back Monday for more photos (I hope)! After dinner (pasta with zucchini, walnuts and raisins) we went to a playground in the next town and then back to Manchester to walk through the carnival that came to town and then grab ice-cream at Captain Dusty's. Here is a photo of Drew and I on the slide, check out his crazy curls... he comes by them naturally.

  2. What a great idea to paint the boards before hanging. At least priming them this way would be a time saver even if you didn't get them painted.
