This may be one of my favorite makeovers yet... it's even better in person.
I found this dresser at one of my favorite thrift stores, the drawers moved smoothly so I was instantly sold (I despise sanding drawers to make them move easily).
My first thought was to make it a bright coral color... and after painting it coral I realized that this dresser was totally too masculine for that. I have this theory that some dressers are "feminine" and are meant to be painted "girly" colors. Others, like this dresser, have simple, classic lines and beg for a more neutral or masculine color.
I envisioned a fabulous navy color (Wrought Iron by Martha Stewart) with silver pulls I found at Target. The official term was called "nautical pulls" so it sold me just on its name. :)
There were a million pock marks in it so I filled them in and sanded like a crazy person.
I used the ship's wheel and baskets from Drew's nautical room to help with the nautical feel.
In case you are interested I'm selling it and just posted it to Craigslist. To see the post click here.
I have a billion things to do tonight before bed to get ready for a wedding this weekend I'm helping out with and to prep for a 5k that I'm managing (click here for more info on that).
Wish I lived within driving distance...I would love this :) I am painting an accent wall in Gabe's nautical room Wrought Iron!
ReplyDeleteJen, in your opinion, what do you think a reasonable price is to pay for a piece of furniture like this? Or, what would be your top price that you would not exceed?

ReplyDeleteHi Jen, I've moved recently to the area and I'm looking for a few good thrift stores to check out. What are your recommendation?
ReplyDeleteAliyka, I like Savers in Danvers and Second Glance in Gloucester!
