Guess what I got for free....

Take a look at this before and after (or should I say, "progress") shot... there are a few changes, like better accessorizing, but one is most notable... who can be the first to guess what it is?

Before:

After / Progress:

And yes, that is a fake plastic pot with the fern.
Don't bring it up... I need to find a replacement pot pronto if it's going to be inside for the winter.

Were you the smarty pants who guessed a new coffee table? If so, pat yourself on the back.
We found it on the side of the road.
I gleefully tried to load it into the car and then AJ jumped right out and tried to save my pregnant body from doing any work... although it's not that heavy at all. Compared to say, moving our zillion pound couch.

Don't even ask me why someone would throw this out.

I just love the legs... this is the type of coffee table I have envisioned in this room for a while now because I wanted something lighter than the black Pottery Barn one we have (which, I have moved and we are not getting rid of it, don't even think about trying to claim it).

It's obvious some kids thought this was their own personal coloring table but that's not a hard sanding job, especially because there isn't an ounce of polyurethane on the whole table... which will make it a whole heck of a lot easier to refinish than our kitchen table. Speaking of kitchen table, I just love how the two styles are so similar since they are in rooms right next to each other.

So, tell me, what was the best thing you found for free on the side of the road?

  1. I guessed coffee table! I wish DC had cool stuff on the side of the road...need to get back up to your area with a Uhaul more often! :)

  2. I miss that about Massachusetts! There is NO cool stuff by the sides of roads in Richmond. Of course, it helps that the average income in Essex Co. is a LOT higher than down here (so they have cooler stuff to "throw out"). :)

  3. Your house gets such amazing light. I'm probably noticing that especially on this grey day here in NJ. I say leave the table as is, then Drew can make it HIS personal coloring table. ha.

  4. Awesome coffee table! I just scored a free sewing table from the 1950s from near the dumpster- sanded it down and it made a great entry table. Will paint it one of these days...

  7. The table looks so nice in your living room. Why can't I find great things on the side of the road? :)

  8. Very jealous! Why don't people around here leave gorgeous furniture on the side of the road? I don't understand.

  9. First, bless your heart for moving the comment section back so I can find it, lol!

Second, love that table! And, I have a story. My kitchen table was free. The table, I believe, came to a furniture store a relative works at. However, the table came with no legs. And, some legs came in with no table. So...they became an arranged marriage, and so far no lawyers have been involved. They are blissfully in love. Also, the legs are the same style as your table legs, which I love!
