Pregnancy Thoughts

Thank you for all your sweet words yesterday. It is officially my most commented post yet... and maybe my post with the fewest words. Makes me want to announce a baby every day. :)
We found out we were expecting on Tuesday, August 28 after I was completely sick and mono exhausted. One day I was out running three miles feeling totally normal and the next I was completely sick... and haven't been the same since. It's funny, it was pretty much that same way with Drew too.
Just for comparison's sake... here I am at 17 weeks with Drew and then at 16 weeks with Baby:
I should have held my dress in at the top... I'm carrying exactly the same with this pregnancy.

It's too blurry to enlarge :(

I'm going to pretend you are interviewing me... or maybe it's just so I can have the answers to these questions for posterity's sake. Maybe you don't even care. :)

Are the two pregnancies any different from each other?
I felt awful for both. With Drew I lost five pounds my first trimester because I was vomiting so badly... the anti-nausea medicine helped but I was still sick even while on it. The day I found out I was pregnant this time around I told the doctor that I needed the medicine that day. Pronto. And she listened. I was sick for somewhere between 4-5 months with Drew (ie: needing the medicine because I'd throw up all day without it) and I'll try to wait in the mornings before taking the pill to see if I still need it but so far I do.
I feel slightly better with Baby than I did with Drew but not much. I have been tired longer with this pregnancy though.

How has your routine changed since becoming pregnant?
I am still occasionally going to bed at 8pm (when Drew goes to bed, yes, I am going to bed when a nearly two year old does...) and am napping while Drew naps. I feels so strange to nap this much because I think I took max three naps after having Drew. I just wanted to get things done while he slept so now I just feel like my productivity has gone down to zero.

Anything else?
It was a thousand times easier for me after Drew was born than being pregnant. There are some nights when I'm up every single hour either going to the bathroom or feeling nauseous. Or I'll be awake for hours in the middle of the night feeling sick (I didn't get such awful night nausea with Drew). Anyways, after Drew was born the every two to four hour feedings were completely fine for me to handle because I was used to waking up far more often... I anticipate it'll be like this again, although I won't have the luxury of just sitting down to rest during the day because of my little ball of energy.

Thoughts on delivery?
C-section again. My doctor even recommended it the other day after reading our birth story because usually second babies are even larger. Eeek!

First photo where the belly made it's appearance.
But I sort of look like I just ate too many cookies. Which I probably did.

Boy or Girl?
No idea. Every day it changes. Earlier today I thought girl. Now I think boy. With Drew I just knew it was a boy all along, it's strange to not have a real feeling one way or the other. In the beginning I was completely convinced it was a girl because my skin was AWFUL (you know how the old wives tale says "girls take your beauty"?).
We will find out the sex on November 5. I keep telling myself not to get my hopes up... the baby could decide to be very modest. :)

Names?
AJ chose Drew's name (Andrew James Migonis III) so I get to choose this baby's name but of course we each have / had veto power. I've got a first name picked out for both a boy and girl but we are talking about middle names.

How did we tell our family?
Sort of like this... check out Drew's shirt. :)

I'm pretty sure my parents are happy.
Or maybe it was just because they were leaving for a week in Paris a few hours after we told them...  Kidding, Mom. :)

And then I emailed my friends this photo, or the one you saw on the blog yesterday:

Weight Gain?
I gained 27 pounds with Drew and then he was nine pounds, one ounce.
I've been walking far more with this pregnancy (running feels so uncomfortable) and weighed less than I did pre-pregnancy at my last appointment on Thursday. That was odd since I have been mostly keeping food down, but maybe I've already lost muscle from not running.

Documenting the baby bump?
I plan to do it every month, so next month around the 22nd take a photo again.

Nursery?
If it's a boy I think I will reuse most of what I have for Drew and then do a big boy room for Drew... I hate to waste his perfectly cute crib set. But if I didn't care about wasting or spending extra money I'd go for a giraffe theme and do the room in grass cloth wallpaper and rich tans and browns... and then of course with a four foot tall giraffe I found online.
If it's a girl I have a whole nursery planned out in light purples.

Last but not least... we got Drew to sit still for our photo by giving him a cookie to eat and hold. The ultrasound photo was put in after the photo was taken in Picasa!

 ...

Anything I should be writing down so I remember it? Or anything else you are curious about?
I am already trying to get Drew ready and I'm ingraining into his mind now that he's such a big helper and such a big boy. :)

  1. OK...could you make a quick trip down to NJ to whip up Kyalo's room. A giraffe/safari theme was what I intended for him...but it just never happened. Lots of bare walls in his room. Congrats again on the pregnancy. Can't wait to hear what you're having - and the names you're thinking of.

  2. I will say, you do "sick" rather well, lol! You look terrific! By the way, you look, probably, 8-10 years younger up close than you do in your previous profile pic. Just my opinion. But, then again, you doesn't like an opinion where you look much younger?

  3. Hooray! You look great, congratulations! That was genius to have Drew hold the cookie and then insert the ultrasound pic! What a great idea!

  4. So excited for you guys! I hope it is a girl. Then Millie will have a little friend to play with! :) You look fabulous and I was wondering why you found the book What Alice Forgot so tearful. This explains it all ;)

  5. HAHA, Allison... you are right, AJ thinks I have crazy pregnancy hormones now. :)
Sue, I've always been asked if I'm a college student and then people were shocked to find out I'm actually Drew's mother. It's funny that you said I looked 8-10 years older because I have NEVER heard that.
Jenna, LOVE to do a decorating trip! :)

  6. Congrats!!!
Your announcements were all adorable! We did the same with my family and had my son Everett wear a t-shirt and then hit up the social media world with a chalkboard sign for him to hold: http://aaronandkristenwindle.blogspot.com/2012/02/three-plus-one.html

And--- totally did the same with the nursery. We didn't find out gender until the baby was born so I just left our boy nursery as-is.

Hope you're feeling better soon and get to enjoy the last few months as your family of 3!
