Before we get into fun free fonts let's just look at this cuteness here:
I've seen all these fabulous free fonts pop up on Pinterest and finally decided to do something about the ones that I've been eyeing for a while when PicMonkey wanted to start charging me to use my faves (like Channel or Jellyka Delicious Cake, both found below).
In the past I've had some problems getting the fonts to download but found these two sites, DaFont and 1001 Fonts, to be incredibly easy to download from. I wrote down the directions for you... (hopefully it is the same, or very similar, for each person reading to download them).
Here is how I downloaded these fonts (it was the same for each website):
- Go to www.dafont.com or www.1001fonts.com
- After searching for your font click the download button.
- Click Open (not Save).
- When the screen comes up after the font has downloaded you'll see one or more options for a version of that font. Choose the TruType Font one (they may have different versions of it so you can click on each one and see the sample). Click the one you want and then hit Install on the top left of the dialog box.
- It should be in Word after that but you may have to start and then stop Word again.
Hope it's as easy for you as it was for me!

thank you so much for the detailed instructions, b/c I haven't ever downloaded fonts before, but I've wanted to. Also didn't realize until experimenting w/ the one I got w/ your instructions that I can manually set the font size--I really thought I was limited to 72 pt and smaller! So a double thank you. I enjoy your blog and your sweet spirit.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! :) And I'm glad you were able to figure it out... I had the hardest time trying to figure it out so I figured others were just as clueless as I was. :)
DeleteThank-you for posting this. Just this weekend I was trying to download fonts that I found and couldn't figure out how to do it. :( Perfect timing!
ReplyDeleteHope you got some good ones! :)
DeleteCan you use it in Picmonkey or just in Word? I've tried a few times in the past to download fonts, but I have never been successful. I'd love to access other fonts on Picmonkey as that is one of the main times I use fancy fonts (oh, and on Blogger on my blog).
ReplyDeleteHi Grace-
DeleteYou know what I did? I went into PicMonkey and made the overlay for the Wooden Sign post (on Wednesday), saved it, then went back into Picassa and added in the font I wanted. This way I can edit the font later, whereas I can't do that with PicMonkey unless I want to do the entire thing over. Does that make sense?
Thanks for posting! These tips really helped me out
