The Doors... White and ORBed.

I spent Monday morning ironing the curtains, hanging the rods and rehanging out photos. The mantle display is out and empty pitchers are just waiting for pink tulips for the photo shoot on Sunday. The hardwood floors would be gleaming if we weren't tracking in sanding dust from the bathroom. I spray painted our brass closet doorknobs in a two foot high snow drift. Yep, we've been uber productive (AJ is on school vacation this week). Every Monday Drew hangs out with my friend Susan and her son Ezra for the morning which means I can crank out projects, and it's always nice to have my main man home with me even if we are working in two separate rooms (he was cranking out the crown molding in the bathroom).

Today I want to share a small project that I feel like makes a big difference in our bedroom. We installed closets under the eves to add square footage and make the room more workable. It was a great decision for this space and it's been amazing to use that area for storage. One side has a lot of linens and the other has running clothes and a bunch of stuff for Baby Girl. The closets started out looking sort of tan-ish / off-white with brass door knobs. Not a good look when you want a crisp clean bedroom.

Now for the after...
Doesn't it make such a difference to have the extra coat of paint (well, two coats of Behr's Ultra Pure White which we've used throughout the house)? And, don't you love the darker doorknob? Let's just keep going... doesn't it make a difference to not see the gap in trim anymore at the top right of the door?

I decided to try out a technique of spray painting in the basement in a garment bag like I saw on Pinterest. Pinterest Bomb. Like I said before I ended up doing it outside in 20 degree weather and on a snow drift. I felt like I was breathing in fumes inside and had real trouble getting around the doorknobs to get all the different angles, hence the move outside where both of those problems were solved instantly.

Drew and I came home from the gym and grocery store yesterday and found out that AJ was a MACHINE while we were gone. He handmade shelves for the bathroom and installed these bars in the closet that make the closets SO much more useful than they were previously.

There is something nice about having the deadline of Sunday to get all our projects done. I find that we are finishing things up at a faster rate than we would have before and things that have been on my to-do list forever, but I've been too unmotivated to do anything about it, are now getting done.

Lastly, before I close this sort of long post, I want to share a funny photo of Drew... he's become a whiz at the iPhone and begs AJ for his (my phone texts, and that's about it). He loves looking at picture and the videos he and AJ make and we thought this was so "him" as he sat there flipping through all the photos on the phone. Disregard his completely mismatched outfit, he only wore it in the house. I had to do laundry. :)

Anyone else motivated by a deadline? Do you have a bunch of family coming over soon or are you pregnant and need to get a nursery done?

  1. Look Great Jen! Especially with the paint and ORB knob!! Isn't so nice to have storage you can close the door too, and at least things have a spot without being seen :) I'm feeling your sigh of relief over here! Looks so pretty! ~Bre

    1. Thank you so much, Bre! There is a huge sigh of relief that it's almost done... or at least that it looks like it's almost done so that I'm not seeing all the things that still need to be ticked off now. :)

  2. You guys are flying through you jobs now! And yes, we have a deadline we have given ourselves as well. We are working on our "short list" and once that is finished, we will decide if we are going to sell our house or keep it and retire in it. If we decide to keep it,THEN we will work on our "long list". Gosh, it will be nice when we no longer have ANY "list", lol!

  4. What a difference paint makes. The colors you are using are very pretty. :) Yes, deadlines help me too. I'm having Bunco in April and my goal is to finish my dining room before then.
