Artwork Giveaway + New Website

I am SO excited about today’s post. Here’s why:

1.  I have a great giveaway for you in honor of the newly designed website for Migonis Home. You are going to LOVE Melissa Lyons artwork. And THREE people will win!

Here is a sneak preview of one of her pieces:

2. You’ve been amazing at putting up with my constant changes to the site and today marks the day I feel like I can say my habitual changes are done. At least for now.

3. I want to introduce you to some areas of the site you may not have seen yet and hear your feedback.

Okay… so why the switch to another blog?

I originally decided to switch to a WordPress.org site after reading Abby’s e-book Everything I Learned in my First Year Blogging. Abby blogs over at Just A Girl and Her Blog. This book was a real game changer for me. I learned so much from Abby and would highly recommend it.  Because of the book I’ve implemented some changes… some of them are more hidden so I’ll just walk through everything that could be interesting to you.

Change #1

I designed an Inspiration Gallery. I added a section for Crafts and Building, Makeovers, Parties and Recipes and have a sub-page on Seasonal Ideas.

Change #2

You’ll see ads placed in certain locations now, like the ones pictured below and one immediately before the comment section on each post. In a perfect world I’d have no ads on the blog for aesthetic reasons but since ad revenue helps fund the projects of the blog they’ll stay up. Renovating a home is expensive work so I’ll take all the help I can get. :) The ads will naturally rotate. I don’t have control over knowing what goes up beforehand but if you see something that is sketchy or not at all fitting with the mission of Migonis Home email me the link so I can block it.  I’ve already had to blog two ads removed so I have no problem doing it again.

WP AD

Change #3

Another change is the About Me page where I gave ten facts about myself you may not know. I know… I’m wildly interesting. You can just click over this part. :) Our Story of Us section is now a sub-page on the About page; that page is more interesting because it involves me three loves.

 Change #4

Another change I made is a very easy way to sign up for the free emails that alert you anytime there is a new post. Even if you’ve previously signed up for these please take a minute and input your email address. From what I can tell the other email service stopped working about a month ago so many of you weren’t getting your daily email.

Change #5

I switched around my advertising page. I’d really like to focus for the remainder of this year with partnering with Etsy shops for a giveaway each month (does that sound fun to you?!?!). Do you have any ideas for small businesses that would be interested in a fun giveaway? I love to hear about them, I’d gladly give them a good review on the blog if they fit with the blog’s mission (home design, home life, decorating, crafts). Here is my new page…forward it to any Etsy shop or small business you think would be a great fit so we can start doing more fabulous giveaways!

Most importantly, though…

I want to thank YOU for putting up with my constant changes to the site  over the past couple of weeks. As a thank you THREE lucky Migonis Home readers will win a 16×20 print from Melissa Lyons . You can thank me now for introducing you to Melissa… she is so talented… I would love love love to have one of her original pieces hanging in our home one day!

The new blog looks fantastic Jenny! And I love Melissa’s art work, what a great giveaway!!

  2. says

I’m not sure how I started following Melissa on Instagram, but I love all of her colorful artwork! I would absolutely love to win one, so thank you for the opportunity.
Also, I’m thinking I really need to read Abby’s book. I’ve followed her blog from near the beginning, as well as yours, and you two have grown a lot! It gives me hope! ;)
Did you find it difficult to transfer over to WordPress?
    Thanks!
    -Lindsey

    • jen.migonis@gmail.com says

Hi Lindsey! You’ve got to read Abby’s book. I am going to go back and read it for a second time it’s so chock full of good advice. I did find the transfer difficult b/c it went live in the middle and I have NO IDEA how it happened so I sped a couple of very late nights trying to get it sorted. I have an ebook on the transfer that walked me through it though. I can send you the link.

  3. Tory C says

Congrats on a new website! It looks great and easy to navigate! Check out @nataliecreates on Instagram. She has an Etsy shop and sells her handmade headbands and happy flags. Both are fun, adorable, and brighten up an outfit or a room!

    • jen.migonis@gmail.com says

Thank you, Tory, for both the compliment and the suggestion of Natalie Creates! Just started following her!

  4. says

Hi! I’ve been following Melissa on IG for just a little while now, but her posts always make me so happy. Hearing the story behind the art makes me connect to it, probably because we seem to have similar stories and love of boats. But I’m no artist!
You’re site is darling and so encouraging. I’m debating a switch of web hosts etc… Big project!!
    Happy Thursday!

    Lindsey C.

    • jen.migonis@gmail.com says

I want to buy every one of her boat paintings! :)
Switching is SUCH A BIG PROJECT but so far it’s been worth it financially, I can put ads were I couldn’t have otherwise and it’s generating more income! Email me if you want more info about switching… I’ll give you some good ideas of what to do and what not to do (trial by error!).

  5. Chelsea says

I love the new look. I just looked at all of Melissa’s artwork on Etsy. My favorite was the Eiffel Tower. Thanks for the giveaway.

  15. says

Love the artwork and I also use WordPress. Actually, I use it corporately and for some of the companies I free-lance for as well! My current Etsy favorite is Faune Yerby, who does some fun photos and turns them into art – I bought some to hang on the bedroom doors to our kid’s rooms, and, confession, I bought some for future kids because they’re just so CUTE! I’ve always contacted her directly through her Etsy site: https://www.etsy.com/shop/FauneYerby I also followed Melissa and will post on your house tour page.

Hi Jen, I just started following your blog and think the layout looks great! I wasn’t familiar with Melissa’s work until today but would LOVE to see a piece of her artwork hanging in our new home. I just painted the entire downstairs a pale gray, her coastal inspired pieces would look especially great there. Thanks for the opportunity!

Love the changes to your site! I actually found out about Abby and her e-book through you! I read the entire book once through and then went back and started making changes as I read. I am about 75% of the way through and then became side tracked with a few other projects for my business. She provided such great tips! So THANK YOU for introducing me to her! I was lucky enough to have already done the WordPress.com to WordPress.org conversion but it was a headache. Anytime you make changes to your website/blog they are nerve-racking…is it going to break something, how will it look… etc. So once again, great job on the improvements. This blog is my fave DIY/Home-based blog! I love all your suggestions on others to follow too! Because I value your opinion and look to you as a thought leader in this category, I am going to follow Melissa Lyons now!

Kudos and Keep up the good work!
