A BIG WELCOME TO EVERYONE VISITING FROM THE SIGNATURE STYLE SERIES! I am thrilled have you at Migonis Home. Stay a while and make sure you follow along with me on Instagram and Facebook so you don’t miss a thing. If you are a regular reader you’ll recognize some of the things I’m talking about here today.
Do you think there is an advantage to knowing your style and defining it? I definitely think so. So when Carrie from Making Lemonade invited me to join 21 other bloggers in describing their Signature Style I was really excited… and I really wanted to see what everyone came up with (you’ll have a chance to ogle everyone style, I included the whole list of talented bloggers at the bottom!).

I like things in neutral natural colors like you’d find at the ocean: blues, greens, whites, tans and grays. Based off a comment AJ made to me a couple of days ago I think AJ is a little over the “gray” part of my love affair. Growing up we’d go to Maine every year for a couple of weeks and it was easily the happiest two weeks of my year (except for maybe Christmas week :)). The beach has always been a place for fun and relaxation for me… and by “always” I mean “pre-children”. 🙂 I want our house to give the same relaxed feeling that get from the beach.
I adore repurposing furniture, especially furniture from the 1970s when there were great drawer pulls to ensure things slid well and doors were dove-tailed… I want to remake a quality piece of furniture that just needs some cosnetic help. This dresser was a beast when I bought it, for $30. All it took for a beachy makeover was removing the hardware, filling in the holes, taking off the frou frou doors and giving it a great coat of paint. This piece with it’s classic molding and lines is both beachy and traditional chic.
I’ve seen the beach look really work while doing the shabby chic distressing thing and that style isn’t completely me. I love the casual and comfortable vibe of it but if I have one house I want it to be a little more tailored than that. I want a bedroom that feels calming with beachy bedding and casual, yet tailored curtains but I want to pair it with silver frames and a champagne bucket that is currently filled to the brim with gorgeous hydrangeas.
While I love shiny frames I also love reclaimed wood and driftwood. With two kids something that is this old can’t have too many dings, right? One more just adds to the character. 🙂
I love utilizing things with fantastic texture like our kitchen stools (similar here) and pairing it with a classic and chic marble like our cararra marble.
All of the items I highlighted above were picks that are close to items I own and love that I think suit the “beachy chic” life. The other day I was running as came to the realization that I think I, and I’m guessing many others, actually spend less when we spend more. Are you confused? Let me explain. My bag of choice is a Coach bag; I get these at the Coach outlet when they are one sale so the bag costs around $120. The last one I bought was two years ago. When I save for a great bag, like the one I highlighted, I really think about if I’m going to use it for years. Is it chic, not trendy? Is it well-made? Same with the J.Crew dress in the collage above. I think that dress is around $130 (eek!!!), but I’ll tell you, when I bought one of their navy suiting dresses for around $100 five years ago it was one of my best purchases. Chic, to me, means almost timeless yet adaptable. That’s the way I want my house and wardrobe to be. Timeless, adaptable and relaxed.
Make sure you check out the rest of these talented women in the series… I’ve had a blast reading the ones who have gone already and I think you will too! You are SURE to get some amazing inspiration!

Yes yes yes! I love your style! Perfectly described! I have a similar style and always have a hard time describing it. I love coastal colors and timeless pieces but not too shabby and distressed. I love your beachy chic description!
My friend Heather gave me that term about a year ago and I thought the same thing! 🙂
Heck yes I did! It so suits you!! 🙂
Hi Jen,
So great to find your blog and see all the lovely stylish things you have inside. I love that you included a book to describe your style too! I’ll have to check that one out. You brought such a variety of beachy colors to your furniture and accessories, which looks so pretty.
Glad to be on the tour with you!
Hi Jessica! The book is so good… perfect for people like us who love home projects. 🙂 I have barely been able to see any of the tours yet as I’ve been working on guest posts like crazy… can’t wait to check out your unique and chic style! 🙂
I love your beachy chic signature style! Your home is so beautiful! Cozy relaxed and stylish! I’m a beach baby myself and incorporate beachy colors in my home too! We love Maine – we honeymooned there! It’s been so fun to join you in this amazing Signature Style series!
One of my priorities tonight is to read the Signature Style posts of everyone! I am so excited to see yours! 🙂
And I am totally still learning Twitter and if I had a clue how to do the equivalent of “liking and commenting” on your shout out there I definitely would. 🙂
Jen, I think I first heard about your blog when we were up for the Apt. Therapy Homies together and I couldn’t believe you were from Manchester! My grandmother grew up there and now lives in Hamilton where I spent much of my summer growing up! And aside from the proximity, I LOVE your design and decor and aesthetic! Who would have thunk that we’d come together in a Signature Style series one day. 🙂 Also… I may copy every inch of your kitchen if you’re cool with that. 😉
