Christmas decorating is happening full swing around here. I’m working on making Elle’s room a little festive without using typical red and green but wanted to make it sparkly and gorgeous. I whipped up in about 10 minutes a DIY ornament topiary for her bedroom’s shelf.
Here’s how I did it… for pennies. First, get these supplies (and I got just about everything at the Dollar Tree!):
1. Floral Foam square
2. Ornaments
3. Glue gun / glue sticks (even the glue gun sticks were from the Dollar Tree)
4. Urn (I got this one at a yard sale for 50 cents)
First cut the bottom of the floral foam so that it fits into the urn.
Fit your floral film into your urn and start hot gluing your ornaments around the outside of the floral foam.
This is a messy photo but after you hot glue ornaments around the outside of the floral foam then take on the pieces you initially cut off the foam and use it to give some height to the middle of the topiary.
Pile the ornaments on top of each other in the same pattern that you started for the first layer. Keep hot gluing the ornaments to each other making the second and third tiers smaller. You will have small spaces in between the ornaments that you can leave empty or fill with some greens.
There. You’re done with one of the easiest DIYs ever. I’ll show you the rest of the room another day but here’s the other side of Elle’s shelf. I got a little more glam going on with a tall skinny vase filled with ornaments and (wait for it…) confectioner sugar. You know, for snow. 🙂
Here’s what my cohorts from $30 Thursday came up with… Shayna made this great faux fur throw:
and April made some throw pillows festive:
Your topiary is lovely – I love to decorate with sparkly/metallic ornaments too! I was also interested in the faux fur throw – the link takes me to her blog, but I am not finding the throw? Just thought I’d pass that along. 🙂
Hi Tracy! She must not have published it at the same time I did… here is Shayna’s link: http://www.thewoodgraincottage.com/2014/12/04/diy-white-fluffy-blanket/
I love all these ideas! I am all about decorating (any time of year) on a budget and without breaking the bank! Great ideas!
Thank you! Decorating on a budget is great for creativity, isn’t it? 🙂
SO pretty Jen!!!
What a great little project, thanks so much for sharing the awesome tutorial too! Don’t you just love that Dollar Store?! =)
