After reading the ingredients, specifically the list of preservatives, in boxed mix brownies I’ve been on the search to find the perfect homemade recipe. It’s been hard because very few things compare to how good Betty Crocker’s box mix is… but this recipe does. I’ve tweaked it very slightly from Brooke’s Best Bombshell Brownies, a dynamite recipe I found on All Recipes.
Ingredients:
1 cup oil
3 cups white sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
4 eggs
1 1/2 cups flour
1 cup cocoa powder
1 tsp salt
1 cup chocolate chips
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9×13 pan.
- Mix together oil, sugar and vanilla extract.
- Mix in the eggs.
- Add flour, cocoa and salt. Mix thoroughly.
- Use a spatula to mix in chocolate chips to the batter.
- Bake 35-40 minutes (unless you are making them in a glass pan which takes me about 55-60 minutes).
One of my little partners diligently helped me whip these up for a very happy two little boys and AJ. She was so into it and was so excited to help with every step… including sampling the chocolate chips.
I hope you enjoy these brownies as much as we do! We’re having friends over tonight to talk with them about selling their home and purchasing a new one (AJ and I are both real estate agents) so I’m serving these with some vanilla bean ice-cream… they’ve been a hit every other time!

The only thing I might do differently is .. I might add a couple of drops of peppermint oil to the brownies.. Oh that makes it taste sooooooooooo good. Loving your new home! Have a happy Labor Day weekend
Ohhhh! Make some with that and bring them over here! 🙂
Oh girl these sound so yummy!
They are… unfortunately for your waist line. 🙂
Hi Jen the brownies look delicious but I know if I make them I will eat the whole pan!! I was wondering if you ever thought of having a small picture of you first home along with the photo of your “new” home?? I will miss seeing that other photo; it was just soo charming!! Have a good weekend; by the way Ellie looks soo “grown-up” in the photo of her making brownies; she is just a doll baby!!! Sandee- Fairfax Va.
I love that idea, Sandee! I’m working on making a button for the final tour of our last home with one of my favorite photos of it. Elle would love to know you thinks she looks “grown up” to her that is the highest compliment. 🙂
